Teaching
Dr Schmid has a keen interest in the pedagogy of teaching and learning. She has completed the Graduate Certificate in Education (Higher Education) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is a member of the OCANZ Written Examination Committee. She has expertise in developing authentic assessment pieces and validation of written examinations. Backhouse, S., Chiavaroli, N.G., Schmid, K.L., (...), Phillips, G., Jalbert. (2021). Dr Schmid’s curriculum areas include
- ocular anatomy and physiology
- ocular pharmacology
- the aetiology and management of refractive errors
Dr Schmid co-ordinates the unit The Foundations of Optometric Practice. This unit aims to enhance optometry students first year experience at QUT. They start the journey of developing their professional identity, introduces them to the core knowledge base that underpins the profession (ocular anatomy and physiology, optics and visual science), and to the scope of practice and competencies relevant to practice (ethics, law, communication, cultural awareness, and evidence based practice).
