Biography
Annette Quayle is a highly respected researcher in the field of accounting, governance, and risk management. She has over two decades of experience teaching and researching across universities in Australia and the United Kingdom, and as an independent board member across government and education.Her work spans several related research areas, including financial performance, governance failures, corruption and integrity in the public sector. She explores the relationships between these areas and sheds light on the challenges of governing financial performance and ethical conduct in both public and private sector organizations.
Annette’s research on financial performance and governance failures explores the role of governance mechanisms in mitigating the risks associated with such failures. Her research on corruption and integrity in the public sector explores the ethical dimensions of decision-making and highlights the importance of integrity in ensuring public trust and confidence in public institutions. Her work emphasizes the need for effective governance mechanisms to prevent and address corruption and unethical behavior, and the importance of transparency and accountability of decision making in promoting integrity.
Good governance is a dynamic process that evolves over time and needs to adapt to changing social, economic, and political conditions. Annette’s research contributes significantly to the advancement of good governance, and her work has important implications for policymakers, practitioners, and scholars.

Teaching
I have taught undergraduate, post graduate and research students across a broad range of accounting, management and governance topics.
I'm also interested in the scholarship of teaching and have a current project looking at the use of the viva voce (oral exam) in online assessment.
I'm really passionate about encouraging more undergraduate students to consider a higher research degree and so I also really enjoy supervising Vacation Research Experience Students to encourage their interest in research.

- The Colin Brain Governance Fellowship is a competitive award for the furthering of education or research in corporate governance, financial management and business ethics.In 2007, the QUT Business School was fortunate to have received an endowment from Ferriscorp Group Pty Ltd in honour of their retiring Managing Director, Chief Financial Controller and Company Secretary, Mr Colin Brain. Mr Brain had an extensive and stellar career as a Managing Director, Chief Financial Controller and Company Secretary in Australian multi-national companies and joined Ferriscorp in 1972 where he served 35 years managing and growing the business at the international level.
