Biography
Ros Darracott is a lecturer in the School of Public Health and Social Work, Faculty of Health at Queensland University of Technology. She is interested in research that contributes to practices that are contextually responsive to the complex lived experiences of structurally disadvantaged people. Dr Darracott has a particular interest in rural and remote issues, including the intersection of social, economic and environmental policy and how this impacts on individual, family, and community well-being; and the contribution of formal services to social care. Dr Darracott brings twenty-five years of practice experience and networks to her academic work. She maintains an understanding of contemporary practice issues through participation in practice networks, such as the Mental Health Professionals Network, and the provision of professional supervision to practising social work and human service workers. With practice experience that is predominantly rural and remote, Dr Darracott has specialised in non-acute mental health, statutory and non-statutory child protection, generalist-generic counselling, and community work. Dr Darracott’s practice knowledge and experience allow her to ensure her teaching is relevant to industry. The Practice Domain Framework, an empirically-based tool for deconstructing the practice environment of social care refined through her PhD, has application in critical reflection, professional supervision, interdisciplinary practice, teaching, research, and recruitment and retention processes. She is co-author of the book Social Care Practice in Rural Communities(Cheers, Darracott and Lonne, 2007).View location details(QUT staff and student access only)
