Dr Sue Taylor

Biography
While at QUT, Sue has been extensively involved in:- developing and implementing the School of Accountancy's generic skills program;
- teaching in both Financial Accounting and Financial Accounting Issues;
- establishing two new subjects in International Accounting at both the UG and PG levels which focus on current international business issues in: IFRS-based, external financial accounting, reporting, disclosure, regulation and enforcement - across the major cultural groupings of Anglo Saxon, Germanic/Latin, Asian, the Middle East and Africa; international comparative auditing, international corporate governance, international taxation and major foreign currency issues; and
- the embedding of both reflective practices and peer review processes at both the UG and PG level utilising the innovative, web-based, PRAZE, peer review technology from the University of Melbourne.
Sue is an active researcher, firstly, in both financial accounting and superannuation related issues and regularly presents papers at conferences. Secondly Sue is actively engaged in accounting education research - with a particular focus on student peer review learning and reflective practices and has presented a range of papers at both national and international conferences in Higher Education. Multiple research outcomes were successfully achieved in 2014 with co-authors, Associate Professor Mary Ryan (QUT, Kelvin Grove, Faculty of Education) and Senior Fellow Jon Pearce, Faculty of Information Systems, University of Melbourne.
Research interests
- international , external, financial accounting, reporting, disclosure, regulation and enforcement within a cross-cultural, IFRS-based context;
- occupational superannuation regulation within a political economics framework; and
- accounting education.
BackgroundPrior to her position at QUT, Sue was employed in a variety of accounting and internal auditing roles in:
- public and chartered accountancy firms
- public companies in the building and retail industries.
Highlights
- 2013, 2014: Superannuation Research - Completed a range of superannuation-related conferences/presentations/research seminars and a major submission to the Australian Government - 'Better Regulation' Review - 14th February 2014.
- 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014: Accounting Education Research - Completed a range of National and International Conference Papers; Awarded a QUT T & L Grant; Achieved Two Successful Publications in 2014 including an A Journal Article.
- 2009 and 2012: Awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Performance Award - In recognition of a significant and superior contribution to the work of the University.
- 2009 and 2012: Lecture of the Year Awards - Top Ten QUT Lecturers.
- 2008: attained a PhD from The University of Melbourne in the field of superannuation regulation - nominated for the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis of the Year Award.
- 2005: awarded a Faculty of Business Teaching Award for innovative teaching practices.
