Sofya Glazunova is a postdoctoral research fellow at the DMRC, working under the Digital Publics program. She holds her PhD in Digital Media from QUT (2020), a Master’s degree in “Politics and Governance” and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, both from the Higher School of Economics, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Sofya specialises in political communication, digital media, Russian media, information warfare, digital propaganda. She has professional experience in the political communication area, working previously as a political expert (Centre for Strategic Research, Moscow, Russia), a TV journalist and a public relations specialist in Russia.
Sofya’s postdoctoral research looks at how Russian pro-government TV channels adapt to a new digital environment and utilise affordances of social media to fulfil the needs of audiences seeking truthful information, the government disseminating strategic narratives, and a new media industry more broadly. She uses a mixed-method approach to unveil digital propaganda strategies, to assess their implications for digital publics and to elaborate a series of recommendations to combat misinformation, in the Russian and a global context.
