Dr Natalie Pollard

Biography

Natalie is a senior lecturer and course coordinator of the Bachelor of Radiation Therapy programs at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Natalie is an educational leader in Medical Radiation Sciences Work Integrated Learning (WIL), with over 15 years’ experience in the supervision and assessment of medical radiation science students undertaking clinical placements, having worked in both the clinical and academic environments. She has expertise in creating innovative student centred clinical curriculums across radiation therapy and medical imaging, in particular developing assessment questions and marking rubrics. Natalie has a national profile and has served on numerous professional committees and boards, including the Medical Radiation Practice Council of NSW's Impaired Registrant Panel. Natalie is currently a member of the Medical Radiation Practice Accreditation Committee, which is responsible for the development of accreditation standards for medical radiation practice programs and assessing programs and education providers against these standards. Natalie is regularly called on to provide opinion on policy documents affecting MRS practitioners and is regularly invited to speak at both national and international conferences regarding best practice in Work Integrated Learning. Natalie is currently undertaking her PhD examining the development of a communication inventory tool to assist in the development of communication skills in allied health students. Her other research interests include assessment of learning and strategies to assist students in managing ethical situations. Natalie is a member of the Institute for Communication in Health Care. This is an international, inter-disciplinary research institute conducting research into healthcare communication, with the aim of improving the quality of care delivered to patients.
