Dr Maria O’Reilly is a Visiting Fellow in the Dementia Centre for Research Collaboration within QUT’s School of Nursing. She is an occupational therapist with more than 30 years’ experience as a clinician, educator and researcher.  Her passion is aged care, in particular care of people with dementia and she has worked clinically in both residential and community settings.  Maria has a Master’s Degree in occupational therapy research as well as a PhD.  Her research has primarily focused on residential aged care issues, care of people with dementia, care quality, rural health, and clinical teaching.  Maria’s primary role is as a senior lecturer in occupational therapy at CQUniversity in Bundaberg, but she continues to collaborate with QUT researchers on a number of projects, including a landmark program of research into dementia and travel, which resulted in Brisbane Airport being endorsed as Australia’s first “dementia friendly” airport.
