Biography
Dr. Jasmine Bai is a senior lecturer of Chinese in the School of AMPR and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Dr. Bai teaches and coordinates four Chinese-English translation and interpreting units offered by the School to the entire university. Dr. Bai received her PhD in Education from the Faculty of Education, QUT in 2010. Prior to her PhD study, Dr. Bai had been actively researching and publishing in the fields of Teaching English as a Foreign Language, cross-cultural studies, linguistics, and international trade. She has extensive experience teaching English and Chinese as a Foreign Language at the university level in both China and Australia. Dr. Bai’s research focuses on academics’ research capacity building in transitional cultures in an era of managerial reforms in universities across the world, teaching English and Chinese as a Foreign Language as well as transnational higher education. She has published in top-ranking linguistics and education journals such as System, Higher Education Research and Development, Globalisation, Societies and Education, and the Australian Education Researcher. Dr. Bai is a NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters in Australia) professional level translator between Chinese and English (both directions), and has extensive industry experience in translating and interpreting between the Chinese and English languages. She has translated and interpreted for the international taxation workshops jointly sponsored by OECD and State Administration of Taxation in China for five years, interpreted for the delegation from South Australia University headed by its Vice Chancellor, and various education delegations from Australia, Italy and Canada. She has also translated the Harvard MBA training materials for the joint program between QUT Business School and a Chinese university.
