Associate Professor Leo Bowman brought his experience as a journalist with the Metropolitan and Regional ABC and regional newspapers to QUT when he began his teaching career in 1988.
His ABC television and radio work was featured both nationally and internationally. Leo has maintained strong industry and professional links and is a national executive member of the MEAA (Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance) Journalists’ section and is journalism vice president of the MEAA state branch.
Leo has a PhD in politics from the University of Queensland and his abiding interest in the principles of journalism enquiry and analysis has led to a range of international and national publications around this theme. He is currently involved in a cross-institutional project (with the University of Queensland and Griffith University) designed to generate research and teaching outcomes that improve public understanding of Indigenous issues and culture. He is also advising the Royal University of Bhutan on the implementation of a Media and Communication course.
