Maths and Statistics Educator for QUT Business School

Student Success Group, Learning and Teaching Unit, QUT This role involves supporting students in the QUT Business School and across the university acquire the mathematical and quantitative skills to undertake their studies successfully through workshops, peer enabled support, development of online resources and individual consultations. In addition to support programs targeting specific units with quantitative content, Sharmila has also developed a number of generic workshop series to develop students' skills in Maths and Excel.

School of Economics and Finance, QUT Business School In addition to her substantive role with the Student Success Group, Sharmila coordinated EFB330: Intermediate Macroeconomics in the second semester from 2018 to 2020 in order to remain actively engaged in Economics teaching.

While working on her PhD thesis at the School of Economics and Finance, Sharmila worked as a sessional academic for units spanning all three years of the Economics major such as BSB113 (Economics 1), BSB 123 (Data Analysis), EFB223 (Economics 2), EFB331 (Intermediate Microeconomics) and EFB338 (Economics Capstone).

Teacher and Lecturer

During this period, Sharmila worked as a teacher and lecturer at various educational institutions in Sri Lanka and also operated as an independent educator. From August 2010 to February 2012, she was a senior lecturer at the Mercury Institute of Management, where she lectured several economics subjects in the University of London International programme as well as Fundamentals of Business Economics for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) UK programme, the Accountant in Business module in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) UK programme and the Economics module in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) USA programme. Prior to this, she held the position of Teacher in Economics at the Colombo International School as well as several teaching positions at the Royal Institute of Colombo.
