Teaching

I am a nationally and internationally recognised leader in developing enterprise and entrepreneurial skills within Creative Industries students. Over the last five years, I have demonstrated faculty and community leadership in successfully embedding Indigenous Australian perspectives in my Bachelor of Creative Industries core unit teaching while ensuring improved cultural safety for our First Nations students. A personal commitment to QUT’s Blueprint 6 goal of Australian Indigenous engagement, success and empowerment continues to motivate me across all domains of my academic practice.

My leadership in teaching is informed by my social constructivist pedagogy, encouraging students to step outside their comfort zone and challenge themselves with courage and conviction. I have developed and applied this pedagogy – recognised with an overall rating of “exceptional” in my 2017 ExPREP review – across multiple disciplinary domains (screen studies, enterprise and entrepreneurial skills development, Work Integrated Learning) and several QUT academic work areas (Academic Programs, Film, Screen and Animation, Work Integrated Learning). My teaching philosophy, rigorously developed through multiple HEA fellowships over eight years of teaching experience, believes in the power of an engaged, informed and articulate educator to lead and effect change.

My contributions to the quality of student learning and outcomes have been recognised and awarded at an institutional (Vice Chancellors Award for Excellence, Carumba Institute award and funding), national (Australian Awards for University Teaching 2019 Citation Nomination) and international levels (Triple-E Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year 2020).
