Biography
Christopher Edwards is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Ultrasound at the School of Clinical Sciences and coordinates the Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound. He is an experienced clinical sonographer and a registered medical radiation practitioner. He also holds a concurrent position with QLD Health as an advanced Radiographer/Sonographer. Chris is a passionate developer and advocate for the sonography profession through strategic planning, collaboration, advancing national accreditation standards, and applied ultrasound research.
His research focuses on understanding how new advances in ultrasound technology can improve patient clinical outcomes via the early detection and diagnosis of diseases and conditions. This includes exploring new applications for techniques such as shear wave elastography and various quantification techniques that measure the interaction of ultrasound waves and biological tissue. He is also keenly interested in mentoring student sonographers and developing pathways for professionals to access research opportunities. He is the recipient of the 2022 - ASA research grant to support the project Optimising Ultrasound-based Liver Fat Quantification Methods, a collaboration between QUT and the Princess Alexandra Hospital Hepatology unit. He is also collaborating with Mater Research and the QLD Family Cohort, exploring the role of ultrasound elastography in assessing the placenta.
Christopher is a fellow of the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA), a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a former Chair and Board Director of the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry.
