Research Interests
Dr Wallace’s main research interests lie in understanding the molecular bases underlying the control of iron homeostasis and iron associated disorders. He has published extensively in the fields of HFE and non-HFE haemochromatosis genetics, cell biology and the regulation of iron metabolism. His research over the past 20 years has been instrumental in defining the genetic causes of iron overload and the role of the liver and hepcidin in regulating body iron balance. He is also interested in how cancers exploit the iron regulatory machinery to increase iron availability for their growth and following from this the development of future therapeutics for cancer.
