Biography

Background Donna joined the Law Faculty in January 2001. She commenced her legal career at Cooper, Grace and Ward and was admitted as a legal practitioner in 1989. She practised exclusively in family law at the law firms, Cooper, Grace and Ward and McInnes, Wilson & Jensen. Subsequently, Donna worked at Legal Aid Queensland as the Coordinator of their Dispute Resolution Section, managing the family law conference program throughout Queensland. Prior to joining the QUT Law Faculty, Donna worked as a Senior Research Assistant in the Griffith University Law Faculty, Family Law Research Unit. Donna is a nationally accredited mediator and an accredited family dispute resolution practitioner. She is on the panel of chairpersons for family law conferences at Legal Aid Queensland and also has experience as a mediator in health decision-making and workplace disputes. She is a current member of the Queensland Law Society ADR Committee and was previously a member of the Queensland Law Society Family Law Specialist Accreditation Committee from 2003 to 2014.

  • Relationships Australia Queensland (family mediation training course to provide staff with family dispute resolution practitioner accreditation, co-designed with Jenny Felton)
  • Queensland Anti-Discrimination Commission (training seminar for lawyers in how to represent clients at conciliation conferences presented at Crown Law, Legal Aid Queensland and Queensland Anti-Discrimination Commission, co-designed with Deborah Keenan, Director Complaint Services)
  • Family Law Section Law Council of Australia, Essentials of Family Law Practice (training course for junior family lawyers, co-designed with Zoe Rathus, Griffith University)
