Biography
Dr Clare O’Farrell is a senior lecturer in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership in the Faculty of Education at QUT. Qualifications
- University of NSW: BA (Hons 1/1) – French and the History and Philosophy of Science
- University of Paris-VIII: DESU (Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieures d’Université) in Philosophy.
- ANU – History of Ideas Unit: PhD on the work of French philosopher Michel Foucault
Research
Clare has conducted extensive work on the French philosopher Michel Foucault (1926-1984)
- has written two books on Foucault
- edited a large volume on Foucault’s work
- was a founding editor of the online international peer-reviewed journal, Foucault Studies from 2004-2008 and rejoined the journal as a co-editor in 2016
- runs a major website on Foucault
- runs a blog with occasional Foucault content.
- runs a Foucault News blog

- has convened and taught in large first year core units in the sociology of education.
- has taught in the areas of creative writing, ICTs, leadership, philosophy of education, cultural studies, literature and literary theory, social and political theory, education policy
Supervision Clare has helped supervise doctoral students working in such diverse areas as:
- the design of women’s shelters
- the education of science laboratory workers
- disability education
- legal education at the tertiary level.
