Teaching

Dr Bartlett has extensive teaching experience with both small and large classes and with students from a diverse range of backgrounds. In particular, he has taught a variety of introductory level units in statistics, calculus, linear algebra and other topics for students enrolled in courses as diverse as mathematics, engineering, science, health sciences and computing, with class sizes up to 650 students. For many years, he taught introductory statistics units for engineering students in distinct disciplines (mechanical, civil and electrical engineering; also surveying); more recently, he has taught the amalgamated version of this unit to the entire engineering cohort, and then an equivalent unit to a mixed class of mathematics students and engineering students. He has also taught more specialist units in topics such as number theory, coding theory and graph theory and related topics in finite mathematics.

Unit development In consultation with relevant stakeholders, Dr Bartlett has developed unit outlines and collated topic materials for several new units. These include service units providing introductory mathematics and statistics skills to science students, to property management students and, more recently, to information technology students, as well as the Graph Theory section of a combined unit on graph theory and coding theory for mathematics students.
