Dr Angela Romano lectures at the Queensland University of Technology in a broad range of subjects, including international journalism, journalism theory, newspaper reporting, feature writing and radio journalism.

Angela conducts research on different elements of the media in Australia, the UK, US, Indonesia and East Timor. Her work is focussed on a wide range of elements related to the quality and regulation of journalism, journalism’s political function, and innovative philosophies, such as public journalism. Angela has also worked as a reporter, radio announcer, technical writer and freelance foreign correspondent over a 10-year period in Australia and Indonesia. She uses her industry background to ensure her research contributes to journalism teaching and research in an applied, industry-relevant way. Among these are the applied research project, New Horizons, New Homes, which won the ‘Best Radio’ category of the 2005 Media Peace Awards. The awards, run by the United Nations Association of Australia, recognise media work that promotes tolerance, diversity, understanding and awareness in Australian society. Angela also designed a national program – the ACICIS Journalism Professional Practicum – which brings Australian journalism students and early-career journalists to Indonesia for study and internship activities.

Angela is an elected board member of the Journalism Education Association of Australia, serving as the Vice President (Networks). She is also a Research Ethics Advisor for QUT’s School of Communication and Digital Media Research Centre.
