Biography
Dr Debbie Turner is a Professor in Podiatry at Queensland University of Technology. She is an experienced podiatrist with an extended scope of practice including diagnostic ultrasound imaging, injection therapy, clinical gait analysis and a clinical specialist interest in rheumatology and diabetes. She has worked as a clinical specialist podiatrist previously in world leading centres for rheumatology research including Leeds and Glasgow in the UK. Debbie has demonstrable evidence of Academic Leadership, related to the management of both under-graduate and post-graduate allied health programs, in both the UK and Australia. Since gaining a prestigious Academic Fellowship in 2007 with Arthritis Research UK, she has made a significant contribution to both the development of capacity and capability in the areas of advanced podiatric practice (gait analysis, diagnostic imaging, injection therapy) and research. She has sat on a number of UK national panels as a clinical expert to help shape the research agenda and funding priorities, the formulation of national guidelines and made a contribution to nationally recognised education programs and was a co-founder of the Scottish Rheumatology Ultrasound Group. She has a good international standing within the field of podiatry and was invited to become a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine and General Practice in 2008.Personal details

Teaching
Debbie is an experienced academic, with a wealth of teaching experience (over 20 years of teaching experience on under-graduate podiatry programs) in a number of different universities including Western Sydney University, Glasgow Caledonian University, La Trobe University and the University of Huddersfield. She was the Head of the podiatry Program at Western Sydney University and Glasgow Caledonian University and has remained clinically active as a podiatrist since she graduated in 1996. Debbie gained her post-graduate teaching certificate at the University of Huddersfield (2007), which was awarded one of the first Global Teaching Excellence Awards in 2017, awarded by the Higher Education Academy in recognition of institution-wide approaches to teaching excellence and for its outstanding educators who provide inspirational teaching. Throughout her academic career, Debbie has acted as module / unit coordinator on a number of different areas aligned to her subject specialty (biomechanics, functional anatomy, rheumatology, assessment and diagnosis, musculoskeletal imaging, pre-clinical studies, high risk foot) and has taught on larger school wide inter-professional units (research methods, Investigating Evaluative Practice and evidence based practice). Her teaching has consistently evaluated highly with students and areas of her innovative teaching practice has been commended in accreditation reports.
