Biography
Background
Peter has a strong interest in research. He has undertaken research examining
- cardiac failure
- intensive care medicine
- infection
- e-learning and education
- burn injury.
His specific research focuses are cardiac failure, intensive care medicine and education.
In 2007 Peter completed his PhD by publication. His PhD addressed the treatment and withdrawal of intraaortic balloon counterpulsation. The interest for this thesis was driven by a clinical background spent predominantly in the ICU.
Prior to commencing as a lecturer at QUT, Peter taught undergraduate and postgraduate nursing in New Zealand for three and half years.
Project Highlights
- 2009: a randomised controlled trial comparing aqueous crème and bees wax crème in the provision of the relief from post burn itch. RBWH Foundation Grant
- 2009: e-learning strategies for blended delivery of theoretical content to manage the impact of increasing clinical placement ‘creep’ within QUT’s Bachelor of Nursing programme. QUT Teaching and Learning Small Grant.

Teaching
Peter is the Undergraduate Course Coordinator for the School of Nursing. He teaches across both the undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes offered at QUT as well as supervising Higher Degree Research students.
