Background
Sue has been teaching since 1989 at QUT Creative Industries/Dance. After an extensive career as a professional dancer, Sue now lectures in ballet, pointe and repertoire; she also works as rehearsal and production manager, tour manager and coordinator within the Dance department’s degrees.
Her ballet training commenced in Brisbane and then the Australian Ballet School under the direction of Dame Margaret Scott. After graduating, Sue undertook a 12-month postgraduate course with Kathleen Gorham. On arrival in London, Sue was contracted to Tanz Forum Cologne, Germany where she performed and toured many works including the famous Green Table by Kurt Joos and Christopher Bruce’s Wings. Sue joined Roland Petit’s Ballet de Marseille performing alongside Maia Plissetskaia, touring and performing live with the rock band of the seventies Pink Floyd. She continued on to Paris to work with Ann Beranger, performing works from Carolyn Carlson, Micha Van Hoeke and Maurice Bejart. Sue was then invited to join Maurice Bejart’s company, Ballet of the 20th Century, based in Brussels.
Since 1999, Sue has annually taken QUT Dance students in their final year to Dance Festivals or World Dance Alliance conferences in the Asia Pacific region. Recent trips have been to Tari (Malaysia), Seoul (Korea), Grahamstown Festival (South Africa) and Guangzhou (China). In 2002, Sue returned to the stage as a mature artist with the Royal Ballet Company performing walk on roles in Swan Lake.
Achievements
- 2006: invited to teach master classes at the Hong Kong Dance Festival
- 2008: received the Vice Chancellor’s Award in recognition of a significant and superior contribution to the work of the University China
- 2008, 2009: taught at the Guangdong Modern Dance Festival & International Summer Dance camp
- 2010: invited to teach in France at the conservatoire in Toulon’s summer school.
