Biography

Centre for Research Excellence in Sun and Health (CRESH)

In October 2010, QUT received an NHRMC funding grant to establish a Centre for Research Excellence in Sun and Health (CRESH) within IHBI. Professor Michael Kimlin will lead the centre, which will focus on the interrelationships of:

  • skin cancer
  • sun exposure
  • Vitamin D in Australia.

AusSun Research Lab

AusSun Research Lab conducts research in untraviolet (UV) radiation and its subsequent health effects on Australians.

Some common negative health effects are:

  • skin cancer
  • sunburn
  • eye damage.

However UV radiation can also have a positive effect on the body through vitamin D synthesis. AusSun is involved in research in both of these areas.

This information has been contributed by Professor Michael Kimlin.
