Biography

Professor Nerina Jimmieson holds an appointment at the School of Management, Queensland University of Technology. She conducts a program of both basic and applied research on (1) occupational stress and employee health and (2) organisational change management designed to improve workplace effectiveness, at the individual, group, and organisational levels. Across both of these research agendas, she employs multiple methodologies, including laboratory-based task simulations, organisational surveys, diary studies, and interviews. She has 89 publications as journal articles and book chapters. In addition to academic dissemination of her research, findings and recommendations are reported directly to her industry collaborators in the form of technical reports and other deliverables (e.g., assessment tools, training materials, how-to guides, tip sheets, and case studies). Her research program is well supported through competitive and commercial funding, totalling 4.5 million dollars to date, having been a Chief Investigator on 9 ARC-funded research projects (both Discovery and Linkage), and a NHMRC Partnership Project. She is currently an Australia Research Council Future Fellow (2012-2015) working on a project entitled: “Supervisor strategies for managing employee stress and strain: A national approach to psychosocial risk management”. She is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology and serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Business and Psychology and the Journal of Change Management. Nerina Jimmieson works closely with the Workplace Health and Safety Regulators in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and the federal jurisdiction overseen by Comcare in the conduct of their WHS surveillance activities and psychosocial education initiatives for employers. She is the lead researcher on the People at Work Project, which assists employers to install a 5-step psychosocial risk management process that includes the survey assessment of a range of different psychosocial hazards and worker health outcomes. To date, over 120 organisations have participated, leading to the creation of a normative database documenting psychosocial hazards prevalence in Australian workplaces across sectors, industries, and occupations.

This information has been contributed by Professor Nerina Jimmieson.
