Biography

After more than ten years working as a teacher in early childhood and primary schooling sectors across remote and city geographic locations, I made a decision to follow my dream to make a difference through research.  I began my PhD in October, 2015, on a part-time basis and moved to full-time study through scholarship, in January, 2016.   My current doctoral research explores the experiences of same-sex attracted and gender diverse parents in primary schools. Given that schools are considered to be sites that reproduce and reinforce heteronormativity, and dominant conservative views of gender, sexuality and family tend to be privileged in the current Australian political landscape, the aim of this research is to provide a platform where same-sex attracted and gender diverse parents can voice their perspectives of current schooling practices and share their experiences.
