Professor Paul Hyland is a Professor of Management in the Faculty of Business.  Prior to joining QUT he was a professorial research fellow at the University of Queensland and has also worked at Central Queensland University, the University of Western Sydney and the University of Wollongong. His research focuses predominantly on innovation management and business improvement. His research has been funded by several CRCs including the CRC Beef Genetics, Rail Innovation CRC and the CRC for Infrastructure and Engineering Asset Management.  He has also worked on research projects and consultancies for industry partners to assist with regional development and business improvement issues.

Recent research projectsPaul has been involved in multiple research projects in areas including:

  • Economic impact of robotics in broad acre farming with Prof.Tristan Perez, Prof Clevo Wilson, and Masoumeh Heshmatpour
  • Mining System Monitoring and Optimisation: development of tools to model the productivity of   long  wall miners with researchers from QUT and Synengco Pty Ltd
  • Economic Impact of Tourism: an analysis of visitors’ spend  in Scenic Rim Region of Queensland with Anexco and Scenic Rim Regional Council
  • Asset Management Performance Indicator: development of a tool to model the relationships between the costs and performance of managing large physical assets with researchers from QUT and industry partners from the  CRC Integrated Engineering Asset Management
  • Understanding Urban Rail Travel Behaviour for Improved Patronage Forecasting with researchers from QUT, Southern Cross University and industry partners from the CRC for Rail Innovation
  • Work Design in Engineering Asset Environments: report on the skills and capabilities industry requires for asset managers with researchers from QUT and the CRC Integrated Engineering Asset Management
  • MSD Materiel Logistics Strategy Development with researchers from QUT and DSTO, DMO and the CRC Integrated Engineering Asset Management
  • Development of a Strategic Management Framework for Planning and Infrastructure in the Northern Territory with researchers from Charles Darwin University and the Department of Planning and Infrastructure (NT)
  • ARISE project.  An  investigation of  the role of knowledge-generating institutions and knowledge-intensive business services in established two emerging industrial clusters in Australia  With Prof Jane Marceau UWS. ARC Discovery
