Biography

Carol is a lecturer of the Construction and Project Management Discipline, School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment, Science and Engineering Faculty, Queensland University of Technology. Before joining the academia, she practiced in the quantity surveying profession. She has diversified research experience in construction management. Her research interests include:

  • construction safety and health
  • building information modelling education
  • mental health
  • gender diversity
  • construction industry development
  • professional ethics

She has just published a research-based text book Safety of Repair, Maintenance, Minor Alteration, and Addition (RMAA) Works and published a number of papers in top-tiered academic journals such as Safety Science, ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering, and Facilities. Her doctoral research won two territory-wide best doctoral dissertation awards in Hong Kong:

  • Champion- Construction Industry Council (CIC) Award (Doctoral Group) of the “Student Project Competition (SPC) 2011” organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) – Safety Specialist Committee (SSC).
  • OSH Best Project Award for the Academic Year 2011 organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Council of Hong Kong.

Currently, she is the co-investigator of research projects in Hong Kong and China:

  • Electrical and Mechanical Safety in Repair, Maintenance, Alteration and Addition (RMAA) Works. General Research Fund of Research Grants Council in Hong Kong, HKD 675,647 (Approx. 115,988), 2016-2019.
  • Research on Unsafe Group Behavior Emergence in Construction Projects Based on Artificial Societies. National Natural Science Foundation of China, RMB 615,000 (Approx. AUD 121,487), 2015-2018.
  • Construction Fatalities – Lessons Learnt and the Way Forward. HKPolyU Central Research Grant, HKD 105,000 (Approx. AUD 17500), 2015-2017.
  • Electrical and Mechanical Safety in Construction. Construction Industry Council Research Grant, HKD 605,682 (Approx. AUD 96,088), 2014-2015.
