Biography
Dr Satomi Hayashi is a Research Associate at Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy (CAB), QUT. She completed her PhD in Plant Biology from The University of Queensland (UQ), where she studied the molecular signalling during the early stages of nodulation in soybean. After finishing her PhD, she took her first postdoctoral position at UQ where she aimed to identify a resistance gene against Leptosphaeria maculans (blackleg disease) in canola (Brassica napus) using genomic approach. During this time, she also had the opportunities to work with national and international collaborators for pursuing next-generation sequencing projects. She joined Peter Waterhouse’s team at QUT in 2017, and worked on a project aimed to further understand the roles for RNA dependent RNA polymerase family in plant defence and development. Her current project encompasses topics such as gene editing, disease resistance, gene regulation and plant development.Personal details
