Biography

Professor FitzGerald is Professor of Public Health in the Faculty of Health at QUT and Director of CEDM. Prof FitzGerald has extensive experience in emergency health from service delivery and policy perspectives. He was formerly Commissioner of the Qld Ambulance Service and Chief Health Officer for Queensland. Professor FitzGerald has led the development of the Emergency and Disaster Management programs at QUT and has led National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Australian Research Council (ARC) funded research programs in emergency and disaster management. He has more than 50 publications in the last five years and currently supervises 18 PhD students.

Teaching

Professor FitzGerald teaches in healthcare systems management and disaster health management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  He leads the Health Management Group at QUT and is Course Coordinator for the Master of Health Management and Graduate Diploma of Health Management programs. Professor FitzGerald  coordinates the following units:
