Dr Ashim Debnath was awarded PhD (Transportation Engineering) by the National University of Singapore in 2010. Prior to joining QUT in 2012, he was a Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the Swinburne University of Technology and formerly a Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore. Dr Debnath is an expert in traffic safety modelling using statistical methods. His primary research interests include Work zone safety (roadworks traffic management, roadworks safety), Vulnerable road user safety (bicyclists, motorcyclists), Surrogate measures of safety (Traffic Conflict Technique, speed modelling), and Advanced statistical models. Dr Ashim Debnath is a recognised expert in Australian roadwork safety and traffic management, as evidenced by his prestigious membership in the “Committee on Work Zone Traffic Control” (AHB55) of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) in the United States. He also serves another TRB committee as a young member – “Committee on Motorcycles and Mopeds” (ANF30). Dr Debnath is a registered Road Safety Auditor in Queensland, accredited by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland. He has led many research projects funded by Australian transport authorities, including Austroads, Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in Queensland, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) in New South Wales, and Brisbane City Council (BCC) in Queensland. He has published many articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, including the Accident Analysis & Prevention, Safety Science, Transportation Research Record, Transport Policy, Cities, and Journal of Navigation.
