Background Emeritus Professor Tom Cochrane is an adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Law. He was formerly Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Technology, Information and Learning Support), at QUT until retiring from that position at the end of 2013. In his current role, Professor Cochrane’s external duties include:  Director, Australian Digital Alliance; Member, Board of Queensland Museum; Director, Board of Knowledge Unlatched (UK); Member, Board of Enabling Open Scholarship (Europe); and Member, Board of the T J Ryan Foundation. In 2013 external appointments also included Director, Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation; Member, Publications Board of CSIRO; Member, Advisory Committee of the Australian Law Reform Commission 2012-2013; and Member, Book Industry Collaborative Council Scholarly Book Publishing Expert Reference Group (ERG); Professor Cochrane is co-leader of the Creative Commons project for which QUT is the institutional partner for Australia. This project, together with other open access initiatives locally based at QUT, signals a long standing commitment to access to knowledge, and to research output worldwide. His research area in Queensland studies was the 1920s, a detailed examination of the events in the State surrounding its “Loans Affair”, when the State Government of E G Theodore became embroiled in a bitter dispute with the  London Money Market and Pastoral Lobby. Projects Professor Cochrane is co-leader of the Creative Commonsproject for which QUT is the institutional partner for Australia. This project, together with other open access initiatives based at QUT, signal a long-standing commitment to:

  • research output worldwide.
