Teaching

Dr. Agdas has been involved in development and teaching of three undergraduate and five graduate level courses during his employment at the University of Florida. Currently, he teaches two undergraduate units at QUT. Below is a summary of these classes:

  • Construction Engineering (QUT): Fundamentals of project engineering with emphasis on heavy/civil construction projects; temporary structures, constructability, overview of different construction methods, construction planning.
  • Civil Project Management (QUT): Fundamentals of project management with emphasis on heavy/civil construction projects; project controls (cost and schedule), procurement management, risk management, developing a project management plan.
  • Infrastructure Asset Management (QUT): Infrastructure funding issues, investment decisions, engineering economy, and systems thinking in critical asset management issues.
  • Buildings and Energy: Global issues in energy management and role of buildings, operational practices and their impact on energy consumption, roles of renewables in building energy consumption, building energy simulation.
  • Civil Engineering Systems: Supply chain management and integration issues, Information Technology (IT) use within construction industry, introduction to systems analysis (optimisation, prediction modelling) and system dynamics, transportation logistics planning, and distribution network problems.
  • Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering: Introducing the sustainability concept within infrastructure engineering practice by incorporating analyses of; sustainability movement, sustain- able construction materials, life cycle assessment of structures, and building rating systems.
  • International Construction Engineering: Analysis of FIDIC rules and differences with local contract provisions, risk identification and management in international construction projects, foreign exchange exposures affecting multinational businesses, and economic theories about multinational enterprises.
  • International Project Management: Project control tools (planning, monitoring and control), organisational structure types, mode of foreign market entry analysis, organisational structure, project planning, control and monitoring methods, Joint Ventures, and international perspectives on Public Private Partnership (PPP) delivery.
  • Infrastructure Disaster Response and Recovery Engineering: Disaster response and recovery operations, mitigation and preparedness strategies, roles of various parties involved in disaster response and mitigation, and methods to improve the infrastructure resilience.
